Paving digital channels to national prosperity

Prime minister Sam Matekane says Lesotho supports the African Digital Compact, which seeks to protect digital rights and promote business.

He was addressing a meeting organised by Lesotho on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in the United States yesterday.

The event was held under the theme: “Empower the future digital pathways to national prosperity.”

Matekane highlighted some of government’s priority areas which include digital agriculture, public service delivery, digital education, and digital trade, which fosters innovation and enables seamless digital commerce to drive entrepreneurship.

“For instance, Lesotho has identified digital ID as a critical enabler for economic inclusion and access to basic services.

“In tandem with this, data governance is essential to ensuring the success of our digital transformation, with a focus on legal frameworks and interoperability,” he said.
