Emergency preparedness takes flight at Polihali tunnel

Kopano ke Matla, in partnership with Vitality Health, yesterday conducted an air evacuation drill, enhancing safety measures for over 300 workers at the Polihali Tunnel construction site.

This was a significant move to bolster safety protocols by the Kopano ke Matla Joint Venture, the primary contractor for the Polihali Tunnel construction.

The drill simulated emergency medical situations, allowing the teams to practice rapid response strategies for airlifting workers in need of urgent medical attention.

Vitality Health, contracted to provide medical services at the construction site, will play a crucial role in overseeing the air evacuation process.

The drill illustrated how workers can be swiftly transported to nearby health facilities or even across the border to South Africa for specialized care in case of a serious medical emergency.

The initiative aimed to instill confidence in the workforce, ensuring that they feel secure in their work environment.

In an interview with theReporter, Tumo Topo, the site manager from Kopano ke Matla, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration with Vitality Health.

“We are very pleased with this partnership as it demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our workers’ safety is paramount,” Topo stated.

He underscored the importance of educating workers about safety measures and protocols to follow in case of emergencies.

“It’s vital that our team understands what steps to take if an emergency arises,” he added.

As the Polihali Tunnel project progresses, the air evacuation drill underscores the importance of preparedness in construction environments.

By prioritising health and safety measures, Kopano ke Matla and Vitality Health are setting a standard for construction sites across the region, ensuring that workers can focus on their tasks with the assurance that their safety is in capable hands.
