Lesotho improves on 2025 MCC scorecard

The government says it is pleased with the overall progress it has achieved on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact II Scorecard of the Kingdom of Lesotho of 2025 by the United States.

Speaking after receiving the results in Maseru yesterday, deputy prime minister Nthomeng Majara said the government was particularly impressed with improved gender parity in education.

“We are aiming to achieve more positive results next year,” she noted.

She also indicated that more work still needs to be done especially around trade policy, government effectiveness, and freedom of information, which has seen a notable decline from 83 percent down to 43 percent.

Scorecards assess the government’s performance in key policy areas throughout the year to determine its continuing eligibility for MCC funding.

Lesotho this year passed 17 out of 20 indicators on the MCC Scorecard, up from 15 last year.

Millennium Challenge Account Lesotho II is the authorised entity of the government of Lesotho responsible for implementing the health and horticulture compact with Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

The compact is a $300 million grant from the US government to Lesotho that aims to reduce poverty through sustainable inclusive economic growth.
