Police warn against sale of alcohol to minors

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) has warned liquor outlets against the continued sale of alcoholic beverages to under aged individuals.

This is contained in the Liquor Licensing Act No.8 of 1998, which prohibits the sale of alcohol to minors.

Police also cautioned that young people should not be sent to purchase alcohol as this might tempt them to try it.

In a recent statement, police further urged businesses to heed regulations governing the sale of alcoholic beverages, such as hours specified by the law, which are designed to promote safety.

The law makes it clear that alcohol should only be sold at designated establishments that are licensed to do so, police said.

“Additionally, owners of establishments that sell alcoholic beverages should abide by the strict laws prohibiting individuals with firearms from consuming alcohol at their premises. This is important because the presence of guns, combined with the effects of intoxication, can lead to unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations,” the statement stated.
