Basotho beats captivate Europe audiences

Sothokids Culture Agency and Omali Themba Music are set to embark on an exhilarating Festival DU SUD Tour across Europe, celebrating the vibrant Basotho culture through music and dance.

As a result, excitement is building as Sothokids in collaboration with renowned artist Rethabile Cassuel, popularly known as Omali Themba, prepares for this remarkable cultural journey.

The Festival DU SUD Tour, scheduled from July 11 to August 27, will bring the rich traditions and artistry of Basotho culture to audiences in France, Spain, and Switzerland.

The Festival DU SUD is a prestigious cultural event that unites folkloric ensembles and national ballets from around the world, offering an immersive experience for attendees.

Each summer, this festival showcases diverse cultures through dance and traditional performances, drawing audiences eager to explore global heritage. This year’s edition promises an exciting line-up, featuring approximately 15 cultural groups from various continents.

In an interview with theReporter, Omali Themba shared his enthusiasm about participating in this esteemed festival.

“The DU SUD tour is an annual celebration of culture, and we are honoured to represent Lesotho this year. During the search for talented cultural dancers, the DU SUD organisers discovered the Sothokids Cultural Agency, which has played a crucial role in our preparations,” he stated.

This collaboration led to the selection of 18 dancers and one artist, marking a significant milestone for both Sothokids and Omali Themba Music.

For Omali Themba, this tour represents a pivotal moment in his music career.

He cited the opportunity to reach international markets, stating, “This is a chance to open doors for my music on a global scale. I believe there will be no language barriers, as audiences are always open to experiencing new cultures. My stage costumes will reflect my heritage, telling the story of where I come from.”

Omali Themba is set to deliver an electrifying performance, showcasing a full lineup of his songs to ensure the essence of Basotho music resonates with diverse audiences throughout the tour.

Despite the challenges of organising such a grand event, he acknowledged that the tour is partially sponsored, highlighting the collective effort to promote Basotho culture internationally.

As the Festival DU SUD Tour approaches, anticipation continues to grow for what promises to be a spectacular celebration of Lesotho’s rich cultural heritage on an international stage.
