The UNDP and the Ministry of Education and Training have announced the launching of UniPod, a groundbreaking innovation hub designed to enhance research, collaboration, and creativity. The launch will be on Friday this week.
UniPod, located at Lerotholi Polytechnic, aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by transforming research into real-world applications.
According to Neo Matsoso, a UNDP programme specialist and national economist, the hub will provide high-tech spaces dedicated to research and development, fostering the commercialization of local innovations.
With 15 UniPods established across Africa – one of them in Lesotho – this initiative is set to make a significant impact. The hub will feature seven specialized areas, including technology, engineering, textiles, and woodwork, equipping innovators with cutting-edge resources to bring their ideas to life.
While UniPod is open to all, participants must adhere to specific terms and conditions to ensure sustainability. Initially, the focus will be on higher education institutions and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, paving the way for a new generation of innovators.
This marks a transformative step in Lesotho’s education and innovation landscape, positioning the country as a hub for technological advancement and entrepreneurial growth.
