Health ministry decries misinformation

The Ministry of Health has assured the nation that the government has enough funds to ensure a continuous and consistent supply of HIV drugs for all those in need.

It is also adequately equipped to efficiently run health facilities across the country offering the life-savingtreatment.

The ministry’s assurances come after recent reports on various media platforms suggesting Lesotho could soon run out of HIV drugs, and that anti-retroviral facilities may shut down due to the recent United States executive orders halting aid to many countries, including the Mountain Kingdom.

“We guarantee that no facilities in Lesotho providing HIV services have been shut down due to stoppage in funding by the United States,” the ministry said in a statement.

Health minister, Selibe Mochoboroane, recently indicated that the U.S order does not endanger Lesotho’s ARV supply as 73 percent of medication is procured directly by the government and an additional 23 percent provided by the Global Fund.

He said 240,000 patients are currently receiving HIV treatment in the country,
