Starlink accused of providing false address

Local lobby group, Advocates for Supremacy of the Constitution, says Starlink Lesotho (Pty) Ltd provided a false registered address in its application to the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) last year to operate the country’s first satellite internet.

In a statement, the local non-governmental organisation, also known as SECTION 2, alleges that Starlink listed 20 Mots’oane Road, Maseru as its registered office service address, upon incorporation on April 17, 2024.

It says the building is occupied by Builder’s City Hardware, whose employees have reportedly denied any knowledge of Starlink, a service developed by US tech entrepreneur, Elon Musk.

SECTION 2 asserts that this misrepresentation renders Starlink Lesotho’s registration and incorporation null and void under the Companies Act of 2011, meaning no such company legally exists in Lesotho.

It further contends that consequently, the LCA’sannouncement on April 13, 2025, granting Starlink Lesotho a 10-year license to operate a satellite network and provide internet services, is equally void, as the Authority can only license a legally incorporated entity.
