Alliance boosts MCC fleet

Alliance Insurance Company has donated two trucks worth M5 million to Maseru City Council (MCC) to enhance waste management and improve the council’s operational capacity and better serve the community.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on Friday, the head of marketing and corporate communications at Alliance, ‘Makeabetsoe Mabaleha, said the initiative to give back to the community stems from Alliance’s Umang funeral policy that was launched in 2018, and is made possible through contributions of policyholders.

She noted that Alliance, as a Basotho-owned company, has taken it upon itself to contribute to the country’s growth and support MCC and the government in their efforts to keep Lesotho clean.

“These trucks will assist the MCC to collect waste. We plead with the MCC to protect these trucks, whichcontribute to the creation of jobs and cleanness of our country because Lesotho is our home,” she said.

For his part, Prime Minister Sam Matekane said the initiative marks a significant milestone in fulfilling the MCC’s commitment to improving waste management and keeping Lesotho clean.

Matekane stated that a clean country not only protects public health, but also has the potential to attract tourists and create jobs through effective waste management and recycling initiatives.

He highlighted that climate change is a global challenge affecting many countries including Lesotho, and emphasised the need for a collective commitment to change habits such as littering to mitigate its impacts.

“I appreciate cooperation and collaboration with private companies because the government alone would not achieve our commitment of keeping Lesotho clean,” Matekane added.
