Govt disbands assets recovery task team

The government has disbanded the Assets Recovery Task Team, citing its establishment was not properly gazetted.

The unit was set up by Prime Minister Sam Matekane’s government in December 2022, to investigate and recover government assets acquired unlawfully.

In a statement, the government says it has decided to dissolve the team after realising that it was not gazetted, adding it will be reinstated upon completion of the requisite gazetting procedures.

The disbanded team comprises 11 officers including members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS), National Security Service (NSS), legal experts, officials from departments under the Prime Minister’s offices as well as the Ministries of Finance and Development Planning, Labour and Employment and Public Service.
