Govt committed to inclusive entrepreneurship

Prime Minister Sam Matekane has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a positive action programme aimed at lowering entry barriers for women and youth in entrepreneurship across all sectors.

He said this while officiating the Demo Day in Maseru yesterday, organised by the Competitiveness and Financial Inclusion Project under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Business Development. The event seeks to showcase the achievements of the Lesotho Entrepreneurship Hub and Seed Financing Facility after a six-month incubation journey.

A total of 15 dynamic, high-potential enterprises from the first two cohorts presented their innovative solutions and business models to investors, ecosystem players and development partners.

Matekane noted that Lesotho was endowed with investors, partners and policymakers capable of transforming early-stage ideas into national success stories.

“I urge you to champion the innovators before you,” he said, encouraging stakeholders to support emerging talent.

He stressed that as the country celebrates its entrepreneurs, the circle of opportunity must be widened.

The premier called for greater efforts to reach all 10 districts, ensuring that women and youth in remote areas also benefit from the programme, citing that a truly national entrepreneurship ecosystem must include everyone.
