The European Union (EU) has disbursed €2.87 million (about M57 million) in grants to four civil society organisations (CSOs), to help address pressing community challenges, including access to clean water, sanitation, and sustainable energy solutions.
EU Ambassador to Lesotho, Mette Sunnergren, announced this today during a media briefing.
Sunnergren said the EU has over the years committed significant resources to support civil society‑led initiatives, providing regular calls for projects to empower these organisations to enact positive change.
“The European Union considers civil society to be a key partner, both on a global scale and here in Lesotho. Civil society is central to driving change and facilitating service delivery, advocacy, governance, and community development throughout Lesotho,” she indicated.
The beneficiaries; International Commission of Jurists, Gender Links, Sesotho Media and Development, and Catholic Relief Service, run programmes on gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and climate justice.
