LHDA hosts skills graduation ceremony

The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) will on Thursday hold a graduation ceremony for its skills testing and accreditation programme at the Katse OldInformation Centre.

A cohort of graduates from the Community-Based Tourism training programme will also be awarded certificates at the same event.

The programme, in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Technical and Vocational Education Department, tests candidates on the skills they have in various trades, and upon passing, they receive accreditation and certification.

According to the LHDA, the issued credentials are valid across the Southern African Development Community region.

The initiative was launched in 2025 for the Thaba-Tseka and Leribe communities.

“The Skills Testing and Accreditation programme is our flagship initiative in the Phase II project, accelerating access to employment for young people and adults living in the project area.

“The programme focuses on identifying members of communities with skills in various trades in the built environment who, due to a lack of tangible certification, were limited in their ability to access employment within the Lesotho Highlands Water Project,” the LHDA said in a statement.

To date, this initiative has graduated over 1,000 Mokhotlong beneficiaries in the project area.
