Majoro reflects on first 100 days

Prime minister Moeketsi Majoro on Monday this week marked his first 100 days in office by taking stock of the devastating and unrelenting effects of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Majoro became Lesotho prime minster on May 20 2020, replacing Thomas Thabane who was ousted in the National Assembly after losing his parliamentary majority.

He noted that his administration came into office amid unprecedented disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw the country witnessing a huge health crisis and one of the worst recessions in 90 years.

With over a 1000 cases and 31 fatalities recorded so far, businesses have been negatively affected as the economy came to a standstill as a result of a six-weeks lockdown and further restrictions.

In a bid to save lives and protect the economy, the government adopted a four-pronged strategy focusing on fighting Covid-19 and protecting society, ensuring food security, ensuring business continuity and protecting jobs and improving governance and accountability.
