Teachers finally paid

The minister of education and training Ntlhoi Motsamai this week announced that teachers have been paid their August salaries after they did not get paid in time.

Motsamai indicated that all teachers were paid on Monday August 31, and the ministry apologised for the delay and inconvenience caused by that.

She explained that the reasons for delay included that her ministry was introducing a new teachers’ career and salary structure that included a raise of five percent.

“After the government agreed to the new career and salary structure in March this year, we made a list of all teachers which is 13 000 to structure them according to the new career structure. This was done with the help of a consultant; we were ready to start the work but had to put it on hold because of the court case by some of the teachers’ unions that were not satisfied with the new career and salary structure,” Motsamai said.
