7 bodies retrieved from Mohokare River

Lesotho police have recovered the bodies of seven people believed to have been attempting to cross into South Africa via the Mohokare River.

The first body was found just before Christmas Day, with the seventh body retrieved last night, sources said.

It’s believed the deceased had been attempting to cross into South Africa through the river utilizing what appeared like mattresses.

There are fears that there may very well be extra bodies within the water.

The deaths follow information that 41 individuals who crossed illegally from Lesotho in to South Africa had been arrested Saturday.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say police have confiscated the mattresses and tyre tubes that people are believed to use to cross the river at Maputsoe in the Leribe district.
