Police warns against dirty money

By Kefiloe Kajane

The Lesotho Mounted Police warns the general public of dye ink-stained South African bank notes currently in circulation in Maseru, which the police suspect are from an ATM bombing or cash-in-transit heist.

According to senior superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, police came to the realization that there are people who were caught trying to clean this kind of money by depositing it at banks and buying at shops.

Senior Superintendent Mopeli explained that the money appears to be stained bank notes. He urged the public to be on the look-out for this money and hand it over to the police if they come across it.

“It is important for people to know that this money was obtained illegally and anyone found in possession of such notes will also face harsh consequences.”
