Lekhanya family suffers another blow

By Neo Mathibe

The office of the Prime Minister has announced the passing on Sunday of Mrs Sofia Lekhanya, a few days after the death of her husband Major General Metsing Lekhanya.

Major General Lekhanya was the commander of the Royal Lesotho Defence Force, and head of the government of Lesotho under the military rule from 1986 to 1990.

“Major General Lekhanya passed away on January 20, 2021 at Makoanyane Military Hospital after a short illness. Sadly, his wife has also passed away, she died on January 2021. Our thoughts are with their family during this time of loss.

“Major General Lekhanya was a true soldier and leader; he will be remembered by those who knew him for his leadership skills.”

Meanwhile, a family member says preparations are underway for the burial of the couple on Thursday next week, at the Lesotho Defence Force Army burial site at Ha Ratjomose.
