WILSA vows to raise women’s voice

By Teboho Serutla

As the world prepares for the celebration of International Women’s Day on Monday March 8 2021, women’s organisations in Lesotho are also not to be left behind, as they too join the fray.

The executive director of Women and Law in Southern Africa-Lesotho (WILSA), Libakiso Matlho says although they are not expecting to be hosting any event to mark the day, they are still aware of its importance.

Matlho says since the first lockdown which was enforced last year in March (Women’s Month), numerous incidents – some social and others economic – affected women negatively, but regretted that the resultant series of lockdowns made it impossible for WILSA to raise concerns as all responsible sectors were also affected by the pandemic.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, is ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World’.

However, Matlho says her organization will be discussing ways of raising women’s voice against challenges they have encountered since March last year and even before.

She says WILSA is working on finding the best platform to share what women go through due to the pandemic, and how to find lawful solutions that could also give them a voice as well as empower them to take part in leadership in all spheres of life.
