Letśeng Diamonds has announced the appointment of two Lesotho nationals to senior executive roles within the company.

Motooane Thinyane has been appointed head of operations and ‘Makhomo Motaung head of finance. Both will take their new positions in April 2021.

Their appointment reflects Letśeng’s commitment to the development of local talent within the company.

The chief executive officer of Letśeng, Kelebone Leisanyane said that he is very happy to report that with the appointment of Thinyane and ‘Makhomo, the entire management of Letśeng is now made up of Basotho.

A statement issued on Monday says Thinyane is a mechanical engineer and engineering management professional with over 20 years of experience. He holds a Master’s Degree in engineering management from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.  His other qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma in Industrial Studies, both acquired from Loughborough University in United Kingdom in 1994.

“Before joining Letšeng in March 2015 as Engineering Manager, Mr Thinyane worked for the Water and Sewerage Authority as maintenance engineer, plant manager and corporate planner. He also worked for the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority as operations branch manager and as operations divisional manager and for Maluti Mountain Brewery as engineer, engineering manager and later as technical director,” the statement read.

For her part, ‘Makhomo Motaung is a chartered accountant with over 15 years of extensive professional accounting experience. She has held several roles within finance, starting as a financial accountant and later as senior financial accountant (IFRS Specialist) at the Central Bank of Lesotho. She joined Letšeng Diamonds in 2011 as a financial accountant. In 2014, she was promoted to the position of financial manager, a position she held until March 2020 when she was appointed the chief financial officer.

The statement also added that Motaung obtained her first degree in economics and accounting from the National University of Lesotho in 1999 and bachelor of commerce from the University of Cape Town in 2002. She went on to further her studies and qualified as a chartered accountant at the University of Brighton and at Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.
