Covid-19 offenders sentenced

The Butha-Buthe magistrate’s court has sentenced 21 women and 11 men to one month in jail for violating section 3(6)1 of Legal Notice No7 of Public Health (Covid-19) Risk Mitigation Regulations of 2021.

All were given an option to pay a fine of M5,000. However, they were given an opportunity to pay M1,000 with the balance due on April 6.

According to Sub-Inspector ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka, the accused were arrested at the Butha-Buthe border gate, where it was established, they had been waiting for nightfall in order to cross the border illegally.

In another incident, police have announced recovery of two corpses (a male and a female) from the Mohokare River by Wepener Police in South Africa. The corpses were taken to a local morgue.

Police have called on families that may have lost members to suspected drowning to come forward, or call the following numbers: 22314354/68098040.
