Progress visible within reforms

By Neo Kolane

The National Reforms Authority (NRA) is expected to have completed its job by the end of October this year, as per the timeline which was agreed upon by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Lesotho government.

The NRA is mandated to manage, coordinate, and lead the implementation of the multi-sector reforms that were recommended in 2016 by the SADC as part of the efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, deputy prime minister Mathibeli Mokhothu stated that among others, the NRA has been able to set a secretariat headed by the CEO and his supporting staff.

Mokhothu said the reforms resolution covers four thematic areas namely, the judiciary, security, parliamentary and constitutional, which are a priority and are expected to be completed by the end of August.

“This will give us enough time to prepare for the upcoming 2022 general elections. However, this does not mean the reforms are meant entirely for the elections only, because there needs to be stability after the elections and that’s where the reforms come in handy as well.”
