Large amounts of cash stolen

By Kefiloe Kajane

Two men, Morake Lilemo (22) of Ha Sakoane in Berea and Thabo Tsibolane (30) of Matsieng have appeared before the Maseru magistrate’s court on burglary charges after they allegedly broke into a local public bar and stole cash amounting to M17 000.

According to Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, the suspects’ case has been postponed to March 22.

In another incident, a 27-year old man of Sebothoane in Leribe, was held up at Khubetsoana in Maseru last week and robbed of M26 930.

Mopeli says the man was driving his car when he was boxed in by an undisclosed number of masked armed men travelling in a Jetta 5 vehicle with no registration number. They helped themselves to the money that was stowed in the victim’s car and made off.

The police spokesperson warned members of the public to always exercise caution when carrying large amounts of money to the bank. He hinted at the possibility of an inside job, whereby fellow staff members work in cahoots with criminals to carry out robberies.
