A recently composed music hit titled, Tiisetsa, seems to be enjoying a great listenership within the country amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The song is an encouragement to the followers of composer and producer Khotso Thahane as it raises awareness on persevering in the midst of the rampant pandemic.
Contained in the major track title, Reflection, the song is regarded as a perfect omen for encouraging those affected by the disease virus in various ways to soldier on.
Characterised by its neat mixture of lyrics, it once again brings Thahane into the limelight as one of the near-full groomed artists Lesotho has seen.
The musician, songwriter and producer revealed that Tiisetsa was inspired by what he was going through at that time he worked as an administrative assistant during his stay in the US.
Born in Brussels, Belgium, Thahane detailed that he could not bear the burden of working in an office as an administrative assistant because his love for music was on a high. Due to office commitments, he could not be settled in the music circles on a full time basis.
He strongly believes the song is an encouragement for him to move on in life, saying it is a great motivation for his endurance.
A homemade production with a professional finish, the Tiisetsa video has high-impact visual and captures a vast audience.
Khotso cites the late Frank Leepa and Hugh Masekela. He was also inspired by Tshepo Tshola and Bhudaza Mapefane who had a huge influence on his musical career.
He has always had an interesting musical dream. But he could not pursue it professionally until when he enrolled in a university where he studied economics.
“I then started pursuing my musical career while studying economics at the university. But I sang only on the sidelines and became popular,” he remembers.
Khotso told theReporter that professionally the person who got him started was Tshepo Tshola in 1997.
“I was visiting a cousin of mine who knows him. I was recording an album in Mabatho, South Africa at that time and he invited me to come to the studio to listen to my demo. He was highly impressed with what he heard and that is when I started recording,” says the 47-year old Thahane.
Since then, his passion for producing songs burgeoned.
Released in last February, the song is the first in the album Reflection. It is available on all digital platforms.
The album contains songs in both Sesotho and English. Full of jazzy beats, it was recorded in Maseru. And Thahane is proud that his music does not contain one genre and is attractive to people with a thirst for jazz. Now based in Lesotho, Thahane remarks that his family’s love for music keeps him on his toes.
