Four up for robbery

Four men aged between 23 and 34 appeared before the Berea magistrates court on Tuesday on charges of armed robbery, following an incident that happened in Teyateyaneng on May 4.

Two of the accused Thapelo Kaota and Ndala Nkholise made their first court appearance on May 6 while their co-accused Paballo ‘Mota and Sesiu Peete made theirs on May 12.

According to police, on May 4, at 10:00am a 26-year old woman of Ha Mokhothu in TY was in possession of M71, 517 which she was taking to the bank, which is not far from the business the woman works at.

While on her way, the woman was waylaid by one of the suspects (Kaota), who struck her with the butt of gun on the head. After collapsing, her assailant snatched the bag containing money and took off.

As onlookers tried to apprehend him, he pointed the gun at them and whey retreated, he hopped into in a Honda Fit four-plus-one cab with registration number MW671.

Police were alerted and they traced the vehicle to Nkholise. After apprehension, led them to Ha Ramachini village where the first suspect was discovered in possession of a .38 revolver, five rounds of ammunition, an Okapi knife, three cheque books and cash amounting to M71, 317. He had already blown M200 on alcohol.  

Sesiu Peete was a security guard at the robbed business, and he was responsible for providing his accomplices with intel on the movement of money.
