M3m spent to free LDF members

A total of M3million was spent on lawyers, bail and negotiations for the release of two members of the Lesotho Defence Force from a South African jail.

Speaking at a press conference in Maseru on Saturday, the principal secretary of the ministry of ministry of defence and national security, ‘Maphunye Bohloko said the government at some point had to change lawyers it sought to free the members of the LDF from the South Africa prison where they were detained.

LDF legal officer, Major Mants’o Sello revealed that they also paid M50,000 bail for each of the soldiers.

He said one of the bail conditions is for the soldiers to report to the Maluti police station in Matatiele on the second Monday of every month, and to appear in court on given dates.

LDF Commander, Major-General Mojalefa Letsoela also said the men still need medical attention for the injuries they sustained from the torture they suffered.

The two LDF members looked healthy, but the Prime Minister noted they seemed to have lost weight; he instructed the commander to ensure that they regain fitness once again.
