VC lauds graduates

By Neo Kolane

Two hundred and fifty graduates across various disciplines were celebrated at the second major graduation event for Botho University for the Maseru Campus on Friday, June 25.

The Vice Chancellor of Botho University, Sheela Raja Ram addressed the graduates, noting that COVID-19 has accelerated three trends that could define how the students engage with work in the future.

She said firstly, hybrid remote working will continue to grow.

“Personally, I can tell you that while most of us at Botho University have worked from home this past year, we have been more productive, we have networked like never before, done more research and have built stronger collaborations without travelling at all.

“This trend of remote working or hybrid working opens up new global job markets that go beyond your local economies.”

Raja Ram warned that companies are now hiring the best people from a global pool of talent, adding that they are already seeing this new phenomenon of virtual internships and jobs across the globe that some of the colleagues have taken advantage of through the University.

“In your search for a job, I ask you to look beyond our borders by having a strong virtual presence. I must however also warn you, remote working calls for discipline and a focus on quality delivery of tasks,” Raja Ram said.
