Police receive PPE

By Kefiloe Kajane

Nedbank Lesotho yesterday donated M60 000 and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) to be used at the Police Training College (PTC), as part of its corporate social investment initiatives,

This is meant to promote the wellness and wellbeing of the men and women in blue, who provide the critical public service of policing throughout the nation.

According to Nedbank Lesotho managing director Nkau Matete, the bank initiated this specific partnership a few months ago, having noted the challenges that local police were facing in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, putting their lives at risk in the frontlines of the battle.

Matete said the bank has over the years enjoyed a remarkable relationship with the LMPS, whose support has enabled the bank to provide safe and secure financial services.

He indicated that the bank and the financial sector cooperate with the police on many security initiatives including the fight against money laundering and proceeds of crime, fraud perpetuated by local and international crime syndicates and cyber-security.

“This partnership and collaboration continue to be one of the cornerstones of stability of the banking and financial services sector. Nedbank Lesotho will continue to support the LMPS these and other corporate social investment activities,” he said.

LMPS commissioner Holomo Molibeli thanked Nedbank Lesotho and pointed out that it is with the support of Basotho that Nedbank has been able to grow and give banking services.

He said the police have many challenges in terms of resources, and therefore appreciates the help that they get from different institutions.
