Lelimo’s murderer nabbed

By Teboho Serutla

Thirty-seven-year old Limpho Lethunya of Sea Point in Maseru appeared before Maseru magistrate court on July 2, 2021, where he was charged for the murder of sports personality ‘Mathabo Lelimo (37), and is awaiting trial in police custody.

This was revealed by police this week. A committed sportswoman who was serving as a commissioner at the Lesotho Recreation and Sports Commission (LRSC) at the time of her death, Lelimo died after she was allegedly beaten and strangled by her Lethunya, who was her boyfriend, in May this year.

According to police, on May 16, 2021 around 10:00am the deceased’s younger sister went to pick her up to go to church as it had become routine for the sisters to meet up on Sundays and drive together to church.

“The younger sister said she hooted when she arrived at her sister’s home hoping Lelimo would come out as usual, and when she asked her sister’s six-year old son about the whereabouts of his mother, he told her that his mother was in the house and could not wake up. She then rushed inside, only to find her elder sister lying on a couch, dead.”

The suspect allegedly fled to Botshabelo in South Africa after the incident, where he was arrested by South African police for illegal border crossing.

On June 29, 2021, the suspect was deported back to Lesotho through the Van Rooyen’s border gate in Mafeteng. Police acted swiftly and arrested him.

He is expected to appear in court again on July 15, 2021.
