Sound and direction spark collaboration

By Neo Kolane

Poet Thabo Marebole and producer Thabiso Doty, decided to compose a song called Babalase in which a poem is infused into music.

Known by his stage name Mora-Mobu, said the song is a musical interpretation of his poem that ended with the lines “They leave us hanging over the false promises, at the end of the day the only thing we have to show for our struggle is the hangover, hobane puso ea naha ena e tṧoeroe ke babalase.”

The poet, who started writing in 2012, told theReporter the song is about the political landscape of Lesotho, adding that it speaks of how politicians have for the longest time survived off just on promises without any service delivery. He speaks of lack of building strong economy and yet the voters still rally blindly behind the politicians.

“The message is that, by now, Basotho should have realised that no answer to their problems will come from politicians or at least this current pool of politicians walking the corridors of power,” the member of Petsoa-Majoeng Arts and Entertainment lamented.

However, he revealed that when he composes a song or write poems generally his target is “everyone that can relate to my story”. He said he has found the right path to appeal to all age groups.

“I met Doty at the launch of Origin (band) song and we started talking on social media. That’s where I learned that he is a producer, beat-maker and a vocalist-singer.

“I went to his studio for one other song and we instantly connected in terms of sound and the direction I want for my musical poetry projects. That is how the collaboration came about,” Mora-Mobu said.

To listen to the song, Thabo says that people should keep checking the Petsoa-Majoeng Arts and Entertainment(@PMAEls), Thabo Marebole(@thaboafrika) on social media.

In addition, the song has already been playlisted on a few local radio stations and is set to hit other stations outside the country.

The song was produced by Thabiso Doty and the video is out on Thabo Marebole’s social media. It was shot and directed by Rankoenyane Ts’oeunyane.
