Mining to open testing lab

By ‘Majirata Latela

The Ministry of mining will this year start the building of a geoscience laboratory which will be used to determine the quality of Lesotho’s minerals and other natural resources.

The laboratory will save Lesotho approximately M2million which is used each year to test natural resources in South Africa.

Speaking at the press briefing which was held in Maseru today, the minister of mining Serialong Qoo said Lesotho spends at least M2million to test the natural resources that Lesotho has, to determine their economic viability.

He said the laboratory will also save the ministry a lot of time which was wasted taking the tests to SA.

“The tests were not even done as and when the samples arrived; they would take a long time to be completed because Lesotho was not a priority.

Qoo said a sum of M2.2million was used for the design of the building although it is not clear when the actual building of the laboratory will start.
