LePHIA 2020 report out

By Seleoe Nonyane

The United States Ambassador to Lesotho Maria Brewer handed over the first Lesotho Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (LePHIA) to the ministry of health on Friday.

LePHIA was launched by the ministry of health to assess Lesotho’s progress toward HIV epidemic control.

Brewer commended Lesotho for achieving the 90-90-90 target and now is working towards the 95-95-95 target by the year 2025.

She mentioned that the project was met with a lot of challenges especially because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“However, we are thankful for the public’s cooperation and understanding of the significance of giving out information that was needed for them,” she said.

Receiving the report, the minister of health Semano Sekatle, thanked all health partners who have shown dedication in fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic since the existence of HIV in Lesotho.

“We need committed nurses and doctors to fight the viruses that attack people these days.

“We want people who are willing to work with no other interests,” he concluded.

Lesotho was able to achieve 55 percent of the viral suppression among young people aged between 15 to 34 years.
