Engen Petroleum rescues orphanage

By Matseliso Phulane
The managing director of Engen Petroleum Lesotho, Tebogo Mosehla says the company aims to adopt St.Cecilia Orphanage, after noting that a lot has to be done in order to improve the children’s livelihoods.

Mosehla said this after the company visited the orphanage at Ha Bua-Sono in Berea on Friday last week.

The visit saw the company delivering 860 litres of paraffin meant to keep the vulnerable orphans warm during this year’s winter which is a few months away.

It also handed over layer chickens which will help generate income.

“We responded to their request as soon as we received it. This is how we ended up with the 860 litres of paraffin that we delivered today.

“However, upon delivery, we noticed other needs such farming.

“Of course we had not planned for that, but now as we were going around with my team, we decided to nominate and adopt the orphanage this year, and use our manpower to come through and do whatever needs to be done,” he said

Mosehle further indicated that they have noticed that part of the orphanage’s roofing had been blown off by storms, forcing the children to be overcrowded in two small rooms.

He added that his team also wants to improve farming, since the orphanage has vast land that could be used to grow crops. He also promised that the company will also provide diesel, as the owner of the orphage Augustine Pule Mahlaku requested.

In conclusion, Mosehle promised that his team will visit the orphanage at least once a month to do spring cleaning.

Social worker Reitumetse Marumo, was thankful for the paraffin, which she said came at the right time as a relief for the condolences to the orphanage after it was left in dire straits by hostile weather.
