Baduza grows by leaps and bounds

Molumo Mokhafola was just bored when he started a food and wine business in 2014. But since then, his Baduza family of three trendy restaurants, Club 101, Ba.One and NaDa have grown by leaps and bounds.

The bug in the entertainment industry hit Makhafola when he was a member of the Students Representative Council (SRC) during his days as a student at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since he was responsible for entertainment in the SRC, his job entailed distributing alcohol to 30 bars, the experience that came in handy when he first became a restaurateur.

He did not know or plan to have a place where people could go and have fun at as he was more into information systems and technology, as he had studied for a Degree in Information Systems at Wits. He still has an IT company which he had before establishing the restaurants at Maseru Mall.
“I first opened Ba.One, Club 101 and the Amusement Park for children to play while parents were doing their shopping at the mall. We used to close at 17hrs but the demand for our service swelled so much that I had to apply for two licences, for a restaurant and a club. Our target market is mature people aged from 35 upwards as we believe they are responsible and know what they want in life,” said Mokhafola.

“At first my restaurants were open for everyone but I realised that people needed exclusivity that is why NaDa was opened three weeks ago. He said since he opened NaDa the response has been good as more clients are flocking to this establishment to unwind, eat and sip on some champagne,” he says.
When it comes to music, he says they are very particular as they don’t play Amapiano, Trap Hip-Hop and Gqom music but Acid Jazz, Lounge music and old school RnB and Soul.
The favourites at the restaurant are NaDa basket of chicken, chips and side salad as well as NaDa pizza.
