Sesiu is securing Moderna

By Neo Kolane

A non-profit organisation Sesiu sa Letsoele le Beta Poho is planning to purchase 1.2 million doses of Moderna vaccine from the US.

The organisation is a grouping of local corporates and business moguls who have banded together to establish a fund to sponsor efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The chairman of Sesiu Sa Letṧoele Le Beta Poho, Sam Matekane, said the organisation is mandated to augment and expedite the government of Lesotho’s Covid-19 vaccine response plan.

Matekane said participation in the pledge to fund the supply of vaccines was open to every Mosotho who is willing to sponsor efforts against the pandemic.  The fund is meant solely for purchase of vaccines for inoculation of Basotho against Covid-19.

In an interview with theReporter, the executive secretary of Sesiu, Phafane Nkotsi, said Mordena is approved by the Food and Drug Agency.

“The vaccine is likely to be approved by WHO on Friday and we will go to the ministry of health for them to authorize it,” Nkotsi said.

However, Nkotsi said the fund was planning to also hold talks with the minister of health as part of collaboration to fight the scourge.
