School reels from Covid-19 outbreak

By Neo Kolane

At least 75 students in grades of eight to 11 at Khethisa High School in Leribe have been confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19.

The principal of the school, Tšele Masoebe, told theReporter this morning that it all started with a student who had to go to a clinic after exhibiting symptoms of the highly infectious virus.

Masoebe said, after that, the nurses did some contact tracing and had to test some of the students, resulting in the 75 cases.

He also revealed that the school was and is still in shock because they still cannot figure the source of the infection.

“The students’ body temperature is checked every morning when they enter the school yard; they sanitize their hands on a regular basis and there are many tippy taps around the school yard,” Masoebe said.

The communication specialist of NACOSEC, ‘Mateboho Mosebekoa, confirmed the cases, adding that the infected students have been isolated.

NACOSEC has recorded 62 new positive cases of June 13. The cumulative number of positive cases stands at 10 921 out of 101 778 tests conducted.
