The Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro last week presented his end of year report on the achievements made by the private forum public dialogue that commenced in April this year.
The office of the Prime Minister made a deliberate effort to organize the 16 dialogues that it held since April.
Since the start of the dialogues, the government adhered to the voice of the private sector.
The Prime Minister listened to the voice of the private sector since the dialogues began, although constraints have not yet been removed at least he knows what should be done moving forward in 2022 and beyond.
Dr Majoro elaborated on the government’s accountability efforts saying such it was so necessary in delivery of services on businesses.
“What we have done for the last seven months was to experiment on whether these delivery units may work or not work for Lesotho. Where they are successful is because the leader of the government is personally interested in driving that process. There are many things that may get in the way but if you have seniority committed to the process problems that get in the way may be removed.
“The feedback is that we need some focus mechanism that builds in mutual accountability that we can through since we are undergoing reforms I am thinking that we need to build in this structure in the prime minister’s office,” Dr Majoro sad.
He said the administration received opinions from various professionals in the banking sectors such as representation from the African Development Bank and the World Bank as well as the public institutions.
He was mindful of the fact that the banks had upped their support in the process.
They have had presentations on land management, taxation on borders and registration of businesses.
“We have used this process to remove obstacles and we have identified and tried to deal with these obstacles with the issuance of permits being a major challenge. It was important to unlock the problems standing in the way of construction, in the seven months since the dialogue with has issued 300 construction permits and that is higher than the previous year,” Majoro said.
During the period from April, 21 projects were identified for development.
Majoro was thankful to those who participated in the task and promised enhanced contributions for support of the initiative.
