Art, glam and money

By Seleoe Nonyane

Working from the comfort of her home at Ha Tsolo in Maseru, Lebohang Morenamotṧo uses her graphic designing skills to customise wood, leather and Perspex into beautiful jewellery and household accessories.

The 23-year old alumnus of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology started making jewellery during an in 2021 when she found herself with lots of wooden waste in her possession.

She started out with earrings and then explored more options in gems. Her creations turned out to be a social media sensation, just the launching pad she needed to kick-start her business.

She now makes key holders, neckpieces, bracelets, wall frames and wooden wall watches, coasters, the list goes on.

Upon the growth of her business, the art enthusiast has added two new materials – leather and Perspex to make her beautiful creations.

She has named her business Kraft and Jewellery shop.

In an interview with theReporter, she said her journey in art was a rocky one as she had to constantly juggle her time between her new found goldmine and her studies. In the end, she was free to throw caution to the wind and grow her business.

“I wanted to study nursing after completing my LGCSE, but had to put that bid that dream goodbye because my results were not good enough. I went for supplementary studies in order to qualify.

“It was during that time that I decided to venture into business and I began selling. My love for nursing was completely gone because after acquiring my results I applied to the Limkokwing University of Technology and did graphic design.

“I fell in love with the course, so much so that I found myself scouring through my old primary school drawings which were to later become the foundation that defines my art,” she said.

Asked why she chose to do jewellery, she told this publication that she loves how jewellery complements the person wearing it.

“I am woman and a woman is naturally beautiful, and a tinge of jewellery can only accentuate that beauty,” she emphasized.

Morenamotṧo went on to emphasise that there is indeed a future in art and one can turn it into a career; she herself is testimony to this as she used art to sustain herself before she landed a permanent job. She was able to feed, clothe herself and pay for her rental from the proceeds of art.

She does not have a physical shop yet, therefore a customer that requires her services call and place their order by phone; she then does delivery in town.

She has a dream to one day own a wood manufacturing workshop and a craft shop where she will display all her creations.

To enhance her skills, she plans to further her studies in woodwork. This she said will help her achieve her dream.
