Joalane Francina Mohale has added more to the list of products she manufacturers with new on the shelves being sweets dubbed Franjo Flu mint.
Early this year theReporter sat down with Mohale to talk about her other product called Franjo Rub which is a vapour rub that heals arthritis and it was at this interview where she disclosed that she has a bouquet of other products she makes that she will produce soon.
Therefore, the Franjo Flu mint is the third product she has produced in a period of less than three years. On the list is the Corn Silk Tea, the Franjo Rub and now the Franjo Flu mint.
The Franjo Flu mint is not an ordinary sweet as it was made specifically for healing a sore throat. But, it also further helps with other cold symptoms such as high fever, coughing, tonsils and cold associated with headache.
Mohale said that the sweets were only made availed to the consumers last week but, the response so far has been amazing.
“After marketing the sweets on social media they have been in demand at a promising rate and I am adamant that business will really be good,” she said.
The sweets are made from extracted plants found in the country and the three main ingredients are wild mint, honey and lemon.
“Wild mint is good for opening up the chest while honey and lemon are good for healing the colds hence I picked them and others that I cannot mention.
“The idea to produce these kind of sweets came to me in 2019 during the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic. So, I used the plants that at the time were said to have a positive effect on healing the Covid-19. However, the plan failed and I abandoned it for a while,” she said.
She said it was only this year in June 2022 when the idea came back to her and she started working on it in September 2022 to perfect it and make it real.
All happened according to plan until she was satisfied that the sore throat sweets will serve the purpose which from the onset was to produce something that will cater for everyone.
She said it was made especially for children, the reason being that some children have a tendency of refusing to take medication so the idea of a sweet was a perfect fit for them.
Mohale said that the release of the sore throat sweet was delayed due to packaging as it took her and her team a while to figure out what sort of packaging was suitable for the product.
“We found out that plastic packaging was not good for the sweets because with time the sweets would melt until we realized that the box is the most suitable packaging for the sweets,” she indicated.
Mohale is a Bachelor of Sceince in Nutrition graduate from the National University of Lesotho. After completing her studies, she was fully incubated at the university’s innovation hub.
Previously she said she needed an extraction machine that woukld help her produce at a bigger scale but nothing has changed much to date.
At the moment, the sore throat sweets can be found at Batho Pele Pharmacy and by orders from her.
