Lesotho will tomorrow (Thur) commemorate International Widows Day.
The event will be co-ordinated by local non-governmental organisation, She-Hive Association, and the Office of the President of the Senate.
The two organisations will hold a consultative forum on imparting knowledge and enforcement of laws that protect widows.
The day is normally commemorated on 23 June each year in solidarity with the international community and the civil society movement working for the advancement women’s rights and protection of widowed women against property dispossession and violence in all its forms.
According to a press statement issued by She-Hive Association, the session will bring together a panel of representatives from the Senate and institutions that provide services to widows. These include the Office of the Master of the High Court, Land Administration Authority and Maseru District Administrator.
“The event will take place at Old Parliament Chambers and will be officially opened by the President of the Senate, Hon ‘Mamonaheng Mokitimi,” the statement read.
