Beauty products, but for cars

By Seleoe Nonyane

Alfred Phera of Qalabane in the Mafeteng district has come up with a solution to beautify cars by producing products called Alfa Car Care.

Alfa Car Care consists of a range of products designed to care for and enhance the car, from washing to waxing.

The current line up consists of car shampoo, dashboard shine, tire shine, car air freshener and back to black.

Phera uses unique ingredients that enable the products to be different.

The business was established in January 2022 after Phera couldn’t find help when his new car had problems; its headlights were brownish, murky and dirty and that spoiled the aesthetics of the car.

He could not find anyone who could get the headlights cleaned up professionally, so he set out to remedy the problem himself. He did a lot of research until he figured out the solution.

Talking to theReporter this week, Phera said when he was done with the headlights, they looked as good as brand new and dazzling. This made people around him curious to know how he had cleaned the headlights.

He then worked on a few cars belonging to friends and family and, before he knew it, it was a fully-fledged business.

“I named my business Alfa Car Care, because it captured the journey I wanted to take.”

Phera initially thought of a company that specialised in interior and exterior detailing, but thought the market in Lesotho was not ready for such a service. This spurred him to think out of the box.

“That’s when I realised that I could use my scientific skills zeal to create car care products. That’s how we ended up here,” he noted.

Phera studied electrical engineering and electronics at Lerotholi Polytechnic but did not complete his studies as he dropped out.

He reckons that the skills he is currently using are self-taught and a result of relentless passion.
