By: Mosa Matela

The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) has announced the birth of the first annual Lesotho Tourism Masutsa Conference and Awards.

Sunsound Tourism Consultancy, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Lesotho Council for Tourism, Maluti Adventures and the department of tourism have joined hands in an effort to strengthen the development of tourism in the country through this initiative.

The awards will be held on 21-22 this month. This was announced at a conference held in Maseru on Tuesday this week.

Sunsound – the main organiser of the conference – is an innovative tourism consultancy company specialising in the growth and industry development of the tourism sector.

The organisers aim to promote the exchange of knowledge; to create a space that allows for business networking and to establish tourism-related business opportunities.

They also seek to spread knowledge on how to build tourism supply chain linkages and opportunities with big industry stakeholders.

The summit is set to be included in the tourism calendar of events and will serve as a hub that brings together individuals and professionals in the tourism industry.

“Over the years, Lesotho’s tourism has experienced sustained growth and diversification, making it one of the fastest growing sectors in the country,” said Motlatsi Tsatsi, the awards organiser.

Tsatsi explained that the event is meant to unite visionaries, thought leaders, and industry change makers from all corners of the Lesotho tourism sector in both the private and public sectors, respectfully.

Due to the tourism centres rapid growth, the sector has potential to create job opportunities for both the qualified and unqualified, hence the importance of such events.

The conference is meant to bridge gaps that have been identified in the industry, by bringing together various stakeholders and helping them reach a mutual understanding.

The Lesotho Tourism Masutsa Conference is set to encourage job creation, as well as to foster business networking and connections that are essential for the growth of the tourism sector.

The summit will be used as a platform where the private sector, the government and other key stakeholders gather and hold a discussion on matters relating to various tourism development strategies and policies.

The summit may also be seen as an ‘umbrella organisation’ for the private sector, representing its interests and acting as an effective mouthpiece for the industry both nationally and internationally.

The theme of the conference is “Reimagining our Tourism: Charting A More Prosperous Future”. The key contents of the event include: the conference consisting of keynote speeches, panel discussions and other activities. Individuals and professionals may register or submit nominations on the official Tourism Masutsa website.
