More kms for 4+1’s

By Seleoe Nonyane

Taxi-cabs known as 4+1 will soon be able to ferry passengers beyond the 10km radius within the Maseru City Council boundaries.

This was announced by the traffic commissioner ‘Mathabo Tšosane at a press conference yesterday.

Tšosane revealed that the Road Transport Board has decided to amend condition number 8 of the Road Transport Regulations.

She noted that the Road Transport Regulationscondition number 8 provides that “a 4+1 taxioperates under a D-permit, therefore, shall convey passengers within a radius of 10km in a local area where the vehicle is stationed”.

The taxis are meant to facilitate urban mobility and this has proved to be a challenge as Maseru city continues to expand, hence the decision to amend condition number 8, Tšosane indicated.

However, the effective date for this change has not yet been set.
