Senior citizens to be honoured

A local company has launched awards to honour and celebrate senior citizens for their contributions to communities across the country.

The initiative is a collaboration between Beyond Creatives Company and the Queen’s National Trust Fund, and the Ministry of Social Development. It is sponsored by various companies such as Clicks, The Market Restaurant, and many others.

Event organiser, Thato Pekeche from Beyond Creatives Company announced at a recent press conference that the Platinum Awards ceremony will be held this Friday at the Royal Palace Gardens.

Pekeche said the purpose of the event is to raise awareness on the significance of the 34th UN International Day for Older Persons in October, while actively celebrating the senior citizens for their long lives and achievements.

“The initiative was started by Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso and I, to honour the elderly in Lesotho and recognise those that have done some projects to empower people in their communities,” she noted.

The organisers will give awards to two people over 100 years old, while the most senior citizens from each of the country’s 10 districts will also be recognised.

The elders will walk away with various health care and hygiene hampers, food packages, and many more from sponsors.
