Innovator pioneers AI use in film industry

Motsepeli Masiloane, a young visionary from Lesotho, is revolutionising video editing and advertising using artificial intelligence (AI), driving innovation and education across the country.

Hailing from Morija, Masiloane has carved a unique path in the creative industry.

His passion for filmmaking began in primary school as a movie and stage enthusiast and later evolved into content creation in high school.

Determined to master his craft, he pursued film production at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, specialising in video editing and cinematography.

In an interview with theReporter, Masiloane shared his journey, highlighting his work with the Future Foundation in South Africa and his branding efforts for a South African politician. It was during this time that he first encountered AI, though he initially underestimated its potential.

However, while working on a documentary requiring animations, he turned to AI out of necessity, leading him to enroll in an AI course – a decision that opened up a world of possibilities.

Through his AI studies, Masiloane explored 3D animation and 3D Max, tools that enabled him to create high-quality visuals without traditional filming. Recognising a gap in educational content for children, he developed AI-generated colouring books and avatar boards, which he successfully sold on Amazon. This venture marked the beginning of his AI-driven entrepreneurial journey.

Masiloane soon expanded his expertise, offering AI-powered services to small businesses, including logo design, menu creation, and business analytics. His growing reputation as an AI consultant attracted entrepreneurs eager to leverage AI for business growth. Today, he is a respected figure in the industry, advocating for the adoption of AI technology.

One of his most memorable projects seamlessly integrates video editing, cinematography, and AI, demonstrating the power of interdisciplinary innovation.

Masiloane’s advice to aspiring video editors and AI consultants is simple: stay curious, keep learning, and never stop asking questions.

Looking ahead, he envisions establishing an AI hub and launching a university offering short-term AI courses. His goal is to equip others with future-ready skills, ensuring Lesotho and Africa remain competitive in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
