Econet commits over M1million to Lecholi event

Econet Telecom Lesotho has officially committed over M1 million in support of the Lecholi Mountain Drive & Braai Experience, becoming the headline sponsor for the 2025 edition of the popular lifestyle event.

The event will now be rebranded as the Econet Lecholi Mountain Drive & Braai Experience.

According to Econet’s Public Relations Officer, Retṧelisitsoe Nkhahle, the sponsorship includes M500,000 in direct financial support towards the organisation of the event, with an additional M600,000 allocated to marketing and logistical efforts from Econet’s side.

Nkhahle pointed out that the sponsorship reflects Econet’s continued dedication to revitalising Lesotho’s tourism and entertainment sectors – industries that were severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are now on a path to recovery.

Speaking at the official announcement, Econet’s Acting General Manager of Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience, ‘Mathabo Masoabi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering Basotho through local experiences.

“This partnership is a testament to Econet’s ongoing investment in Lesotho’s creative and cultural economy. We believe in the power of entertainment and tourism to stimulate economic growth, foster social cohesion, and create employment opportunities, particularly for young people,” Masoabi said.

“We are proud to be part of an event that celebrates adventure, community, and togetherness – values that are deeply aligned with our brand,” she noted.

She added that the Econet Lecholi is fast becoming one of Lesotho’s premier lifestyle and tourism events, offering attendees a dynamic mix of mountain drives, live music, camping, and culinary experiences set in the breathtaking highlands of the country.

Event organiser, Mokhesi Hlalele, expressed gratitude and optimism, describing the sponsorship as a transformative development for the event.

“We are thrilled to welcome Econet as our headline sponsor. Their support allows us to scale up the event and enhance the overall experience for our guests. This partnership is a game-changer. Since launching in 2022, we’ve made great strides — and with Econet’s backing, the 2025 edition promises to be our biggest and best yet,” Hlalele said.

He further indicated that Econet’s involvement aligns with its broader mission to drive positive change through technology, innovation, and meaningful community engagement, not just by connecting people digitally, but by enriching lives through real-world experiences.

The Econet Lecholi Mountain Drive & Braai Experience in September is expected to draw adventurers, music lovers, food enthusiasts, and cultural explorers from across Lesotho and beyond.
