LNIG, Minet hand over defensive driving certificates

Insurance companies LNIG-Hollard and Minet Lesotho awarded defensive driving certificates to seven trainees during a ceremony held this week in Maseru.

Minet CEO, Retṧelisitsoe Leboela, hailed the completion of the programme as a significant milestone in promoting road safety and professional development.

“The completion of this defensive driving course by our seven dedicated trainees is a testament to Minet’s commitment to enhancing skills and fostering a culture of safety. I am confident that the knowledge and techniques acquired will have a positive impact on both their personal and professional lives,” Leboela said.

He further applauded the instructors and organisers for their role in ensuring the programme’s success, adding that Minet remains dedicated to prioritising safety and excellence in all its initiatives.

LNIG CEO, Mpho Vumbukani, also addressed the ceremony, describing the certification as a vital step toward raising safety standards within the organisation.

“This achievement not only reflects the trainees’ hard work and commitment, but also demonstrates our ongoing efforts to improve our operational safety. I encourage the newly certified drivers to become ambassadors of safe driving practices, sharing their expertise with others and contributing to a safer working environment,” said Vumbukani.

He revealed that LNIG plans to build on this initiative by implementing further safety measures and providing continued support to ensure drivers maintain high standards of performance.

“We congratulate the trainees and look forward to witnessing the positive outcomes of this training throughout our organisation,” he added.

One of the newly-certified drivers, Matela Matela, expressed his appreciation for the training opportunity.

He also appealed for a salary review to reflect the additional responsibilities brought on by the certification.

“As certified defensive drivers, we will be expected to operate and maintain higher-standard vehicles, with varying mileage and fuel demands. In light of these increased expectations, we respectfully request that our compensation be adjusted to match the enhanced value we now bring to the organisation,” he said.

Matela thanked both LNIG and Minet for providing the valuable training, noting that it not only improved their driving capabilities, but also deepened their understanding of road safety and responsibility. “I am confident that the skills and knowledge gained through this programme will enable us to contribute meaningfully to both our organisation and the broader community,” he said in conclusion.
