Seshoeshoe reimagined in Morali’a Mosotho launch

Felleng Phafoli has officially launched Morali’a Mosotho, a culturally rooted garments and accessories brand under Tsa Haeso (Pty) Ltd.

The label aims to reimagine traditional Basotho identity through contemporary fashion design.

“With over five years in the retail industry, I returned to my true passion – fashion design – and established Tailored by Hessini in 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa,” Phafoli said.

Specialising in custom garments inspired by cultural elegance, Phafoli took a break in 2022 to pursue a Diploma in Business Management. The hiatus allowed her to restructure and rebrand the business, giving rise to Morali’a Mosotho.

“The brand merges heritage with modern aesthetics,” she explained, adding that the launch focuses on an exclusive accessories line ahead of a full fashion collection rollout.

Morali’a Mosotho produces handcrafted accessories, including statement earrings, neckpieces, belts, and handbags, made with Seshoeshoe fabric and intricate beadwork. Each piece, Phafoli said, is ‘a bold, elegant fusion of tradition and contemporary design.’

She chose Seshoeshoe because of its cultural significance, describing it as ‘a medium of design and a message, namely honouring our heritage, telling our stories, and expressing pride in our roots through wearable art.’

The brand’s mission is to celebrate the beauty, power, and authenticity of Basotho identity while positioning itself as a globally recognised African accessories label.

Preparations are underway for a Summer 2025 brand relaunch, which will mark the official unveiling of Morali’a Mosotho’s evolved identity and new collections.

“Our goal is to expand locally and internationally while empowering young designers and artisans across Lesotho,” Phafoli concluded.
