The Petroleum Fund and Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance police training on petroleum regulations.
The collaboration, which builds on a March 2025 initiative, aims to curb illegal importation and price manipulation of petroleum products across the country.
Petroleum Fund CEO, Advocate ‘Makananelo Kome, said the partnership is crucial for ensuring compliance with the nation’s petroleum laws.
She stated that the Fund will train police officers in all the country’s 10 districts to address challenges such as illegal imports and sellers who do not adhere to government-set prices.
Adv Kome also announced the distribution of approved jerricans to all petroleum sellers, warning that using improper containers would lead to arrests.
She emphasized the Petroleum Fund’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to support the LMPS in this initiative.
Commissioner of Police, Advocate Borotho Matsoso, welcomed the partnership, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the police and the private sector.
Adv Matsoso noted that the training would be conducted in various districts and urged police officers to participate in the free and beneficial program, emphasizing the hazardous nature of petroleum and the need for caution.
He added that the training would benefit the police and the entire nation.
