Lesotho to host regional municipal games

Lesotho will host the Southern African Inter Municipality Sports Association (SAIMA) games from September 21-26, 2025 under the auspices of the Lesotho Local Authorities Sports Association (LELASA).
The Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police, Lebona Lephema, recently told the National Assembly that the games are meant to promote wellness and recreation of local authorities’ staff and councillors in the SADC region.
Lephema said the games and social-cultural activities to be held in Maseru also seek to create an atmosphere of friendship, goodwill and cooperation amongst the participants.
Approximately 8,500 people are expected to participate, with 7,500 coming from sister countries and 1,000 from Lesotho.
“Dignitaries expected from member countries include ministers, mayors, councillors and officials from both central and local government,” Lephema said.
He added that the participants are expected to spend M18 million on accommodation only during their stay.
